3 Steps to getting out of your C-zone
Stretching yourself, keeping the passion alive, that's what inspires you to wake up every morning!
It’s what makes life exciting and worth living, but getting out of your rut, the normal routine - well that can take some work and is the reason many people don’t do it (or at least not often enough)
It’s important to push the boundaries of your comfort zone - that behavioural space where your activities fit a routine that minimises stress and risk (hence fear) in your life!
Three steps you can take to step comfortably out of your c-zone:
- Do something different every day - this can be as simple as trying a new brand of food in the shops, take a different road to work, or look for an activity you can do on the weekend that you have never done before!
- Trust yourself and make snap decisions - don’t give yourself time to talk yourself out of it!
- Make a fool out of yourself - overcome the fear and do it anyway!
May your days be filled with new experiences!

Health begins by knowing your body - a spotlight on rashes!
As you know, Alive and Happy is all about keeping you healthy and feeling good about yourself! Healer and Coach Sylvia is our face reading guru, and can help you understand your body better!
Face & body reading is a wholistic art form that dates back centuries, but is slowly making a comeback to the modern world.
Originally, Face Reading was practised by Taoist Monk Healers as a way of helping to gain clues as to what was happening with their sick patients.
Face & body reading is basically your window to your body, almost like a magic mirror that allows you to see areas of weakness within the body. By knowing this information, you are able to make subtle changes to your lifestyle, including diet, exercise and other simple tweaks, that enable you to be healthier!
So what do rashes indicate?
Depending on the location of where you get the rash can have different meanings, but rashes generally indicate:
1- allergic reaction to something (and this topic can get very intense and detailed, but is too long for this post today)
2- issues around inner control - you want so much to be a certain person, act a certain way or believe certain things that you begin to feel trapped and stagnant to the point of great frustration. You may be fearful or ashamed of not living up to your “ideal” personality.
If you find the rash is really itchy, it may be because you are allowing someone to “get to you” and feel like you are not in control.
Red spots on the face can be related back to organs that are being affected most by these emotions.
A face reading can help you pinpoint the exact organs, as well as give you tips to overcome this; mentally, emotionally and physically!

Worrying won't stop the bad stuff, it just stops you from enjoying the good!
Sometimes you see articles or watch the news and think, it’s too much, I don’t know how to stop bad things from happening. Well, this article from Lida (our spiritual reiki and life coaching guru) has phrased it so well and eloquently here, I just had to share!
SHINE YOUR LIGHT
2012 heralded a significant time. Some predicted doom whilst others predicted miracles on a grand scale.
It is said that the Mayan calendar ended around December 2012. A few mystics spoke of this being a time of significance.
Much has changed since 2012. More individuals have had their awareness levels raised. There is more interest than ever in yoga, meditation, metaphysics, ethics and morals. Social barriers are gradually being removed.
More of us are taking responsibility for our own spiritual journey. The number of people who are being called to take responsibility for their actions and for their inter-actions with others is growing. Politicians, sports people, teachers, parents, the young, the old, business owners are all expected to be more considerate in their choices.
You are contributing to this change in consciousness. Your Light is raising awareness in magnificent ways and for most of us we do not realise this. Every time you express gratitude even when faced with challenge, you are shining your Light - you are strengthening the raising of consciousness.
We are continually being presented with opportunities to shine the Light. At times you may even identify that you have some out-moded beliefs. They no longer sit well in your psyche. In the noting, change is occurring, your Light is expanding. If this is happening for you then it is happening for many.
Whenever you identify an injustice and speak of this in ways that contributes to growing awareness you are shining your Light. You are contributing to raising consciousness. It may be that you notice a person is being excluded and you take steps to welcome this person. This small act is powerful. At the time you may not realise the full implications of such a simple action.
Any major social change was first ignited by a few who chose to shine their Light on outmoded behaviours and beliefs. During those times of change there was aggressive resistance which gradually dissipated as more individuals recognized where there was injustice. There are many historical records of how out-moded beliefs and behaviours were changed by the masses who kept shining the Light.
Look around you. Listen to distant dialogues. Listen to your own inner dialogue. Are they communications of support or are they excluding? Identify where rigid views contribute to isolating be they your beliefs or others. Then intend to shine your Light. This does not require for you to make massive changes. Begin with self.
As you go to sleep at night take a moment to give thanks for the Light within and for the magnificent interconnectedness of this limitless, infinite vibration.

Love, Love, Love
Love, Love, Love!
Valentine’s day is marketed to us in a very commercial way as being the day to celebrate love by showering your partner with flowers, chocolates, cute teddy bears and all things nice. Whereas I am not a fan of the commercialised aspect of Valentine’s I do love the ultimate message behind it - LOVE
To me, it is not about showering your partner with delicious and cute goodies, but it is about showering yourself with love.
It is when you completely love yourself first, that you are able to love another without neediness, without judgement, without strings.
So this Valentine’s Day, make an effort to appreciate your other half, by first appreciating and loving yourself!
- Do something for yourself that makes you feel loved and special
- Sit in contemplation to discover what areas you are not happy with in your life - and change it!
- Sit in front of a mirror, gaze at yourself in the most loving way possible and spend the next 5 mins repeating to yourself “I love you”
*Hint - any problems figuring out what aspects of yourself you need to change, or perhaps you know what you want to change but have no idea how to actually make the change? - no worries, contact one of our life coaches for personal support, wisdom and change!

Loving your body with some TLC - helping you to live the life you want (and always secretly thought you would).
Do you remember the "Friends" episode where Chandler falls in love with bathing, with the relaxing decor provided by candlelight, the beautiful aromas...
Sometimes we just need a little TLC - to relax and unwind, and sometimes to to show how much we love and respect ourselves, body, mind & soul!
Create your own spa getaway with these easy-to-make DIY shower bombs, and show yourself how much you care for you!
Toss a shower bomb in the bottom of your shower (or bath) and enjoy the wonderful scent or create a collection of these homemade shower bombs as a gift for someone you love.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid (available at health food stores or online)
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 30+ drops of your favorite aromatic essential oil (see our suggestions below)
Directions:
Mix together the baking soda and citric acid in a medium-size bowl. In a separate small bowl or bottle, mix together water and essential oil. Slowly add the oil-water mixture a few drops at a time into your dry ingredients, stirring well after each addition (a stand mixer works well for this). When ingredients are thoroughly mixed, tightly pack into 2-inch balls using your hands, a stainless steel cake pop mold, or a cookie scoop. Set on a plate to dry. If necessary, pack the balls again more tightly. Allow to dry for 12+ hours before using.
To use, simply place a bomb near your feet under warm running water and enjoy the aromatic experience!
Suggested essential oil additions:
- Morning Fresh Shower Bombs: Add 30 drops of Awaken to a batch for an in vigorating and fresh aromatic experience.
- Orchard Stroll Shower Bombs: For a sweet, refreshing aromatic journey, add 30 drops of Citrus Fresh to a batch.
- Day’s End Shower Bombs: Add 30 drops of Lavender to a batch to enjoy a relaxing aromatic addition to your shower time.
Because you are worth it!

A moment in time...with Sylvia Lane
A Moment in Time with Sylvia
Every month we feature a coach who is a part of our community. Showcasing them in a slightly different light, you get a tiny insight into their lives.
This month, the focus is on Sylvia from Melbourne. Enjoy getting to know our coaches :)
What is the one thing you do everyday to keep your life on track?
Meditation and setting my intention. I love doing visualisations, but to me visualisations are about helping to set goals, its about giving you direction, clarity and the means of achieving something. Meditation is simply about silence. It is about surrendering and this can be both harder but also more rewarding.
How long do you spend in meditation each day?
It really depends on my day, sometimes I will only allocate 3-10 minutes in the morning. This is normally when I set up my intention for the day - sometimes I will choose my intention, but sometimes I surrender myself to greater infinite wisdom. When I do this, I normally find my intention suits the day and I am far better off for it.
Other times I will meditate for an hour. It really depends on my schedule.
What made you want to be a coach?
I had been working as a beauty therapist for many years, doing traditional beauty treatments as well as various healing modalities. I began to notice how often the pain in the body was a direct result of the emotional state being held by the person. Life coaching has the amazing ability of helping people to create awareness within themselves of what their emotional state is (you would be surprised by how many people do not recognise or pay attention to their emotions, thoughts and words).
Once I started working with people to understand their emotions, and how words can affect their life, I noticed healing occurring at much deeper levels, pain in the body began to be resolved quicker and more permanently.
I also love life coaching because it looks at creating a better future, rather than rehashing the past which is over and done with!
What is the best advice you can give to people wanting to grow themselves?
I would say 3 things:
- practise the art of gratitude every day - always strive to find things to be thankful for
- learn how to surrender - when you give in and surrender you life moves in directions that are not only perfect for you, but amazing beyond what you can imagine!
- pay attention to your thoughts and start to create your thoughts in a more conscious and loving way - it can be a challenge in the beginning but like anything else, it can be mastered.
Sylvia from A Touch of Balance specialises in helping you reconnect with yourself, enhancing your self esteem and helping you build a happier life for yourself. She also teaches a very traditional style of Reiki using sound vibration to create shifts and changes and to help release energetic blockages. Coaching and healings can be done in person or over the phone, prices start from $49 (AUS)

Helping your life to turn out the way you want it to (and always secretly thought it would) through detoxification
I am on a detox this week. You see, I have a tiny bit of a chocolate addiction. It's my comfort food, my congratulations food, my "wow what a fantastic day" food, my "I’m bored" food, my "I’m so busy" food, my "I need a break" food, and well, pretty much everything in between too.
Now, you may be wondering why I would choose to go on a detox from this very important and rather staple food source in my diet. Well, it began when I decided I needed to start cutting down on this “indulgence” because it was no longer an indulgence but rather an opulence.
So I did, I started to gradually cut down, but then after about 5 days of no chocolate, I caved and had a piece. Well, more like a whole slab of chocolate. And I noticed the most bizarre reactions happening in my body.
About an hour later my body started to feel like it had ants crawling through the inside of my skin. I felt tingly and buzzed all over - no doubt from all the caffeine and sugar combo in the chocolate. That night, I slept horribly, tossed and turned throughout the night, not to mention the bad dreams. And the foul mood when I woke up that persisted throughout the next day - wowsers!!!
As I walked around the house feeling and acting like the biggest cranky pants, it occurred to me that when we eat foods that make us feel angry and disturb our sleep, leaving us tired and run down, well its really hard to live a happy life. It’s hard to feel positive, its hard to think happy thoughts, its hard to wish others well. Its very easy to fall into a victim mentality where the whole world is out to get you, everything that can go wrong does…and who wants to live like that?
Not to mention that negative health effects on your body. Did you know that the liver is primarily responsible for detoxification, supports the immune system and nutrient absorption. It also excretes bile which breaks down fats in the body and this in turn helps to make them more easily digestible. More than 500 VITAL functions are directly attributed to the liver. It cannot rest for even a moment and is like the Army, Navy, Air Force, Special forces of the body. It is the first on the scene when anything enters the body, works the hardest and is the last to leave. It luckily has almost super-human powers to repair itself where 25% of the liver can be removed and it will still grow back! In Chinese medicine, the liver is also known as the seat of all emotions - stagnant liver, and yip you have got it - anger, resentment, crankiness, feeling tired (sound familiar…?)
Definitely time for a detox and to support my most vital and treasured organ, my liver!
My preferred method of detoxing - Using “Balance Complete”. This is not only a superfood meal replacement, but also a powerful nutritive energiser and cleanser.
Yip, it helps clean my body, especially my liver, and gives me a great range of nutrients to support my body through the detox process. I choose to have it as 2 meal replacements over the course of the detox, adding in a hearty vegetable soup as my third meal. I try to stick to one type of soup, sort of like the mono diet, my body can cleanse itself more effectively that way. And add some Slique essence into the process (great for helping with chocolate cravings), to really see and feel results!
After 4 days of being on my detox, I am back to feeling lighter, happier and more energised!
All these products are available through our website aliveandhappy.com.au and if you need some help with finding out what works best for you, we have some great life coaches and wellness professionals on hand for one-on-one consults!
