Loving your body with some TLC - helping you to live the life you want (and always secretly thought you would).

Do you remember the "Friends" episode where Chandler falls in love with bathing, with the relaxing decor provided by candlelight, the beautiful aromas...

Sometimes we just need a little TLC   - to relax and unwind, and sometimes to to show how much we love and respect  ourselves, body, mind & soul!

Create your own spa getaway with these easy-to-make DIY shower bombs, and show yourself how much you care for you!

Toss a shower bomb in the bottom of your shower  (or bath) and enjoy the wonderful scent or create a collection of these homemade shower bombs as a gift for someone you love.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup citric acid (available at health food stores or online)
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 30+ drops of your favorite aromatic essential oil (see our suggestions below)
Directions:
Mix together the baking soda and citric acid in a medium-size bowl. In a separate small bowl or bottle, mix together water and essential oil. Slowly add the oil-water mixture a few drops at a time into your dry ingredients, stirring well after each addition (a stand mixer works well for this). When ingredients are thoroughly mixed, tightly pack into 2-inch balls using your hands, a stainless steel cake pop mold, or a cookie scoop. Set on a plate to dry. If necessary, pack the balls again more tightly. Allow to dry for 12+ hours before using.
To use, simply place a bomb near your feet under warm running water and enjoy the aromatic experience!
Suggested essential oil additions:
  • Morning Fresh Shower Bombs: Add 30 drops of Awaken to a batch for an in vigorating and fresh aromatic experience.
  • Orchard Stroll Shower Bombs: For a sweet, refreshing aromatic journey, add 30 drops of Citrus Fresh to a batch.
  • Day’s End Shower Bombs: Add 30 drops of Lavender to a batch to enjoy a relaxing aromatic addition to your shower time.

Because you are worth it!

A moment in time...with Sylvia Lane

A Moment in Time with Sylvia

Every month we feature a coach who is a part of our community.  Showcasing them in a slightly different light, you get a tiny insight into their lives.
This month, the focus is on Sylvia from Melbourne.  Enjoy getting to know our coaches :)

What is the one thing you do everyday to keep your life on track?
Meditation and setting my intention.  I love doing visualisations, but to me visualisations are about helping to set goals, its about giving you direction, clarity and the means of achieving something.  Meditation is simply about silence.  It is about surrendering and this can be both harder but also more rewarding.

How long do you spend in meditation each day?
It really depends on my day, sometimes I will only allocate 3-10 minutes in the morning.  This is normally when I set up my intention for the day - sometimes I will choose my intention, but sometimes I surrender myself to greater infinite wisdom.  When I do this, I normally find my intention suits the day and I am far better off for it.
Other times I will meditate for an hour.  It really depends on my schedule.

What made you want to be a coach?
I had been working as a beauty therapist for many years, doing traditional beauty treatments as well as various healing modalities.  I began to notice how often the pain in the body was a direct result of the emotional state being held by the person.  Life coaching has the amazing ability of helping people to create awareness within themselves of what their emotional state is (you would be surprised by how many people do not recognise or pay attention to their emotions, thoughts and words).
Once I started working with people to understand their emotions,  and how words can affect their life, I noticed healing occurring at much deeper levels, pain in the body began to be resolved quicker and more permanently.
I also love life coaching because it looks at creating a better future, rather than rehashing the past which is over and done with!

What is the best advice you can give to people wanting to grow themselves?
I would say 3 things:
  • practise the art of gratitude every day - always strive to find things to be thankful for
  • learn how to surrender - when you give in and surrender you life moves in directions that are not only perfect for you, but amazing beyond what you can imagine!
  • pay attention to your thoughts and start to create your thoughts in a more conscious and loving way - it can be a challenge in the beginning but like anything else, it can be mastered.

Sylvia from A Touch of Balance specialises in helping you reconnect with yourself, enhancing your self esteem and helping you build a happier life for yourself.  She also teaches a very traditional style of Reiki using sound vibration to create shifts and changes and to help release energetic blockages. Coaching and healings can be done in person or over the phone, prices start from $49 (AUS)

Helping your life to turn out the way you want it to (and always secretly thought it would) through detoxification

I am on a detox this week.  You see, I have a tiny bit of a chocolate addiction.  It's my comfort food, my congratulations food, my "wow what a fantastic day" food, my "I’m bored" food, my "I’m so busy" food, my "I need a break" food, and well, pretty much everything in between too.

Now, you may be wondering why I would choose to go on a detox from this very important and rather staple food source in my diet.  Well, it began when I decided I needed to start cutting down on this “indulgence” because it was no longer an indulgence but rather an opulence.

So I did, I started to gradually cut down, but then after about 5 days of no chocolate, I caved and had a piece.  Well, more like a whole slab of chocolate.  And I noticed the most bizarre reactions happening in my body.

About an hour later my body started to feel like it had ants crawling through the inside of my skin.  I felt tingly and buzzed all over - no doubt from all the caffeine and sugar combo in the chocolate.  That night, I slept horribly, tossed and turned throughout the night, not to mention the bad dreams.  And the foul mood when I woke up that persisted throughout the next day - wowsers!!!

As I walked around the house feeling and acting like the biggest cranky pants, it occurred to me that when we eat foods that make us feel angry and disturb our sleep, leaving us tired and run down, well its really hard to live a happy life.  It’s hard to feel positive, its hard to think happy thoughts, its hard to wish others well.  Its very easy to fall into a victim mentality where the whole world is out to get you, everything that can go wrong does…and who wants to live like that?

Not to mention that negative health effects on your body.  Did you know that the liver is primarily responsible for detoxification, supports the immune system and nutrient absorption.  It also excretes bile which breaks down fats in the body and this in turn helps to make them more easily digestible.  More than 500 VITAL functions are directly attributed to the liver. It cannot rest for even a moment and is like the Army, Navy, Air Force, Special forces of the body.  It is the first on the scene when anything enters the body, works the hardest and is the last to leave.  It luckily has almost super-human powers to repair itself where 25% of the liver can be removed and it will still grow back! In Chinese medicine, the liver is also known as the seat of all emotions - stagnant liver, and yip you have got it - anger, resentment, crankiness, feeling tired (sound familiar…?)

Definitely time for a detox and to support my most vital and treasured organ, my liver!

My preferred method of detoxing - Using “Balance Complete”.  This is not only a superfood meal replacement, but also a powerful nutritive energiser and cleanser.

Yip, it helps clean my body, especially my liver, and gives me a great range of nutrients to support my body through the detox process.  I choose to have it as 2 meal replacements over the course of the detox, adding in a hearty vegetable soup as my third meal.  I try to stick to one type of soup, sort of like the mono diet, my body can cleanse itself more effectively that way.  And add some Slique essence into the process (great for helping with chocolate cravings), to really see and feel results!

After 4 days of being on my detox, I am back to feeling lighter, happier and more energised!

All these products are available through our website aliveandhappy.com.au and if you need some help with finding out what works best for you, we have some great life coaches and wellness professionals on hand for one-on-one consults!
